Cranes are depicted everywhere. They appear on ancient pieces of art, are featured in many cultural folktales and are the inspiration for the origami crane, a symbol of universal peace. Although they are prominent in art, many of their populations in the wild are declining. Of the 15 species of cranes in the world, 11 are threatened or endangered.

We have a new local history resource! You can listen to audio, look at photos, and read newspaper articles for over 100 local history interviews in our new digital collection. Learn about Sauk Prairie's past, the history of many local business, and the lives of its residents. You may even find interviews with your relatives! Access the collection, called Stories of Sauk Prairie, online through Recollection Wisconsin.
