Library Board Recommendation & Rationale
The Library Board recommends that the Village Board accept the land donation offer made by Mrs. Ethel Dahir. This recommendation was officially presented to the Prairie du Sac Village Board on April 24, 2007.
The following are some of the reasons why the Library Board feels that this property makes an ideal site for a community library:
- Ample Space - This site would provide for ample parking, green space and future library growth.
- Ideal Cost & Availability - 2.2 acres would be available at no cost. Additional land could be purchased for this project, at a discounted rate.
- Central to Future Community - Ideally, new libraries are designed to serve a community's needs for 25 years. This location will be in the heart of the community as it is expected to grow in the future.
- Accessibility - Lueder's Rd, Grand Ave. and Broadway will provide easy access to other areas of the community. A drive thru book drop could be included in the design for the convenience of customers. Most current & future residents will be within one mile of the library.
- Future Friendly - This site will leave endless possibilities for our community in the future. If sufficient land is acquired, the library will be able to remain at this location for many years to come while still maintaining green space and adequate parking. By providing space for future expansion, this site should be able to accomodate future growth needs including a joint library with Sauk City (should that be agreed upon in the future).
